What is Safety Town?

Safety Town is a 10 day (two week) program in July and is open to 4-5 year olds.

It is held at one of the BCSD schools in the gym and cafeteria.

The child does not need to attend the BCSD to participate in Safety Town.

The Gym is set up like a town with a working stop light, stop signs and working railroad crossing light.

The Cafeteria is set up with tables for activities that correspond with safety topics.

11 trikes are provided for children to ride and practice bike and traffic safety.

Is there a cost and how do I sign up?

There is a cost of $30.00, however monetary scholarships are available. Children will not be turned away due to financial hardship.

Children participating in Safety Town will receive a Safety Town certificate, a T-shirt and a bike helmet.

Parents/guardians and family are invited on the last day to participate in what the child has learned and have fun with activities!

Safety Topics Covered:

  • Sidewalk Crossing Safety
  • Fire Safety
  • Bike Safety
  • Railroad Safety
  • Boat and Water Safety
  • Sports Safety
  • Weather Safety
  • Stranger Safety
  • Bus Safety
  • Medicine and Poison Safety

Safety Town participants will also take field trips to the fire station and complete a Bus Drill at Crapo Park. Parents are encouraged to attend the field trips.

We regularly have Burlington Police officers attend and talk with the children about safety, emergency service volunteers, youth volunteers, parents, teachers and more!
